Modern society has been spoilt by prosperity. While the standard of living enjoyed by western civilisations today is decadent by global standards, and that its by no means a bad thing for us, it brings with it a slew of negatives. A double edged sword of sorts. By far the biggest negative is instant gratification. We all want it now. We don’t want to wait nor do we want to work hard for anything in particular. And when it comes to muscle building, that philosophy is massively defeatist. Everyone wants to ‘get big fast’ or grow abs overnight. It’s why toning belts still sell rather well. If you own one, slap yourself in the face for being foolish. There’s no substitute for the exercise and the only person ever known to ‘get big fast’ was a certain Bruce Banner. Rumor has it he wasn’t real.
